Obituary for Ofelia Zapanta

Surrounded by her five children, Ofelia Zapanta entered the Glorious Kingdom of God on September 14, 2013. Ofelia, known to all as Nay (Mother) is survived by her husband of 62 years Egmidio Zapanta, daughters Evangeline Samonte, Eleonor Manucal (Cesar), Esperanza Rodriguez (Salvador), Emely Demaree (Ken) and son Emiliano Zapanta (Beth), grandchildren Marvin, Lisa, Michael and Lanie Samonte, Marc and Maggie Manucal, Bailey James and Haley Ann Rodriguez, Hower, Christian and Ian Zapanta and 10 great-grandchildren.

Nay was born in Cavite City, Philippines on March 20, 1933. In the Philippines, Nay owned and operated a small variety store that served her community. She immigrated to the United States in 1996. In the United States Nay worked as a nanny, first for her family, and then later for the elderly and young children. A woman of strong faith, Nay never forgot her heritage or culture, but she cherished the privilege of living in the United States that allowed her the ability to support and provide for her family in the Philippines.

Nay inspired her family and all that knew her with a zeal for life. Her “never give up” attitude was demonstrated during her life as she survived the death of her parents at a young age, World War II and the occupation of the Philippines by the Japanese, the death of a child, separation from family and several illnesses.

In 2004 Nay accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, was baptized and became a member of Grace Fellowship Church.

The entire family expresses deepest gratitude to Dr. Don Stevens and the entire staff of the Norton Suburban Oncology Department as they treated Nay during her illness; Hospice of Louisville as they cared for her the past four months and the Hospice Norton Hospital Staff that cared for her final 3 days.

Funeral Ceremony will be 11:00 am Wednesday September 18, 2013 at Newcomer Funeral Home 235 Juneau Dr. with entombment to follow in Louisville Memorial Gardens East. Visitation will be 3-8 pm Tuesday September 17, 2013 at the funeral home.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy be made with donations to Grace Fellowship Church in honor of Ofelia Zapanta.

Grace Fellowship Church, 3415 Bardstown Road, Suite 206, Louisville, Kentucky 40218

In Lieu of Flowers, family requests contributions can be made to Grace Fellowship Church.
